The sinister effect of paying for medicine out-of-pocket

Cost-sharing is when patients pay some of their health care costs out of pocket. Can this be good? - Well, it can discourage waste and duplication. Can it be bad? Of course, especially if it keeps you from getting the care you need. In defense of true-blue 'Managed Care,' cost-sharing should be more about cost-effectiveness, cost-benefit and cost-utility then about cost-minimization.
