Insurers--Get With the Program!

Printer-friendly version

After patiently waiting many months for Congress to come up with a bipartisan reform proposal, President Obama reiterated: “now is the season for action.”  He champions three goals for reform—"increasing security and stability" and "shared responsibility" for coverage for those having insurance, for the uninsured, giving all “quality, affordable choices,” and the sticky widget—"slowing the growth of health care costs."

His plan would strike at the sinister 'heart' of private insurers and their sickening stratagem of: denying coverage because of "preexisting conditions, dropping or reducing coverage when an enrollee becomes ill, and arbitrarily capping annual or lifetime coverage. In addition, he said, 'we will place a limit on how much you can be charged for out-of-pocket expenses, because in the United States of America, no one should go broke because they get sick. And insurance companies will be required to cover, with no extra charge, routine checkups and preventive care, like mammograms and colonoscopies — because there’s no reason we shouldn’t be catching diseases like breast cancer and colon cancer before they get worse.'”
